Dear Propeller Head: I’m having trouble sticking to my New Year’s resolution to lose weight. Can you help me?

Answer:
Feeling a little heavier after the holidays? Having trouble seeing your feet? We’ve got plenty of advice to get you motivated and back into shape.
There are multitudes of diet, exercise, and wellness sites online. Most diet plans have an associated online component, and many have complete programs that you can subscribe to and complete all from the comfort of your home – no meetings to go to, no sweaty bodies on the exercise equipment you’re next in line for, and best of all … no public weigh-ins!
There are a couple of types of diet websites: product-based and plan-based. First, let’s take a look at some product-based sites.
For those of you who like to drink most of your calories, and we’re not talking about distilled spirits, take a look at the Slim-Fast website at slim-fast.com. There you will find product and diet plan information, advice on portion size, dining out calorie count information, and healthful recipes.
If you would like a little more chewing in your future, check out SpecialK.com. There is a description of the plan along with information on the Special K product line.
Both websites have free registration and free support. The Slim-Fast site includes a body mass index calculator, food diary, and a weight chart. Both the Slim-fast and Special K sites offer support through blogs and interest groups you can join. All of this "free" support is designed to help sell their product line.
Again, there are oodles of these sites, from WeightWatchers.com to SouthBeachDiet.com to eDiets.com. Each offers multiple tools to help you find your inner skinny person. These sites are more full-featured than the product-based sites, with advice on picking healthier fast food choices, menu planning, free recipes, exercise tips, and online support groups. The WeightWatchers site offers help on the go with the ability to track and access your statistics via your pda while the eDiets site even helps you choose a diet plan that matches your particular lifestyle.
For a truly "free" site, take a look sparkpeople.com.  Spark encourages folks to make small changes which can eventually result in big weight loss. The focus is on making changes you can live with for a lifetime.
We have talked about various products and plans. But now get ready for this next piece of advice, which you are not likely to hear from a PropellerHead ever again ... PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM YOUR COMPUTER! Yes, that';s right - get up and get moving. You will be more successful at losing weight, and will be on your way to a healthier 2008. You will not only be able to see your feet, but you'll likely even be able to bend over and tie your shoes!
