Dear Propeller Head: OK, I’ve decided to jump in and start some daily Internet reading. What do you suggest?

Answer:
This is fantastic. We PropellerHeads are always sneaking our daily web reading in between real work and the peering eyes of the man. Now we can just say we’re doing research for your question. Bravo!
What follows represents a compilation of web sites your prop-spinners read regularly to keep up with the news, pop culture, sports, politics, and our other interests. We suggest you check these out.
Who says you can’t go home again? OK, it was Thomas Wolfe. But, maybe he was wrong. If you don’t have time to read your local paper or travel a lot, visit the website from your local newspaper. From our hometown, InRich.com is a great place for our local news when we can’t get to the Richmond Times Dispatch. Speaking of the City of Monuments, richmond.com is also a good daily read for local stuff.
Do you like to count on the opinions of others? Try digg.com, where you can find Internet stories ranked by users.
Wolfe Blitzer is soooo cute. Need your daily news fix? We like cnn.com, msnbc.com, news.yahoo.com, and news.google.com. For sports, si.com, of course. Raining in Poughkeepsie? Check out weather.com. Think cash is king? We credit cnbc.com. Who’s wearing what? Eonline.com is so vampy.
All politics are local. Want to be prepared to start that great dinner argument...I mean conversation? Tip’s reading list might include: politico.com, realclearpolitics.com, drudgereport.com, nationalreview.com, and motherjones.com.
Thirty and living in your Mom’s basement? If you are into all things techy, you might be interested in some of our favorite sites. News.com is CNet’s news page. Slashdot.org is the venerable news site for nerds. Xkcd.com will tickle your funny bone. For the über geeks, try dzone.com and oreillynet.com.
All the news unfit to print. There are a number of sites where some clever folks write scathing, sarcastic, irreverent, provocative, entertaining, and sometimes offensive essays and articles that give you a feel for some of the diversity of thought that makes the Internet the sweet thing it is. Consider maddox.xmission.com, theonion.com, fark.com, and mcsweeneys.net.
I know what you’re thinking (besides it being weird that the Today show sucks now that Katie is gone, yet so does the CBS evening news). You don’t have time to look at all these sites. Well, I might suggest you just pick one or two to get started. Before you know it, it’s lunch time!
Another choice is to use a front page portal (from yahoo, msn, aol, comcast, and others). They let you select panels for your front page from various sources. In addition, most let you subscribe to news sources and the site will publish the content on your customized home page. I use my.yahoo.com and subscribe to a number of my favorite writers and features.
I don’t need no stinkin’ PC. Moved to an iPhone or other smart mobile device? Most of these sites have content formatted especially for your mobile browsers. So, it’s a snap to get your daily fix while waiting for the Starbuck’s guy to get your coffee to exactly 140 degrees.
So check out these sites today, and you'll be slackin' like the pros in no time.
